Helping to grow Maine’s economy and create good-paying jobs
• Spearheaded the nation’s first earned paid leave policy for Maine’s workers.
• Supported tax credits for investing in Maine’s small businesses to help Maine businesses grow and create new jobs.
• Sponsored legislation to support and grow childcare providers through increased reimbursement rates, stable contract funding and tax credits.
• Co-sponsored a Research & Development bond to foster technology investment that helps Mainers prepare for tomorrow’s jobs.
Real progress for Maine’s environment and renewable energy
• Sponsored and enacted green standards for affordable housing projects receiving state financial assistance. • Co-sponsored Act to Reform Maine’s Renewable Portfolio Standard.
• Successfully passed into law requirements that Maine DEP notify municipalities of air quality violations and evaluate and make recommendations on emissions from above ground petroleum product storage tanks.
• Co-sponsored the Maine Solar Energy Act to promote local solar energy development, generation, manufacturing and jobs.
• Co-sponsored Maine’s laws which prohibit off shore drilling and the use of toxic PFAs (phthalates) in packaging.
• Advocated for Maine’s first in the nation law to prohibit use of extruded polystyrene food containers.
Fighting for accessible affordable healthcare
• Worked to pass Maine’s law that limits out of pocket costs for insulin.
• Co-sponsored new requirements to require drug price transparency, to assure mental health parity for health insurance coverage, to strengthen family planning, and to reduce barriers for dental care for Maine’s children.
As our state legislator, Rebecca Millett created new laws that:
• Provide critical supports and opportunities for school children and their families by partnering schools and community organizations.
• Strengthen testing of Maine’s schools’ drinking water for lead and strengthening air quality standards for our classrooms.
• Prohibit the use of e-cigarettes on school grounds.
• Allow voters to decide how to use additional state education funds.
Rebecca also secured more than $300 million in additional state funding for K-12 schools during her senate service, pressed for the state to meet its obligation to fund 55% of the cost of Maine’s education costs every legislative session to see that finally fulfilled in 2021.
And she helped make college more affordable for Maine families:
• Increased the Maine State Grant program by $500 more for each student.
• Kept tuition costs flat for five years by protecting higher education funding.
